چکیده
Cowpea bruchid is a major constraint to cowpea production. Easy identification of resistant/tolerant accessions infestation has been challenge in resistant breeding programmes. Hence, the study was aimed evaluate variations some morphological characters between and susceptible accessions, correlating them with their tolerance status hope identifying pointer character(s) that can facilitate easy tolerant among germplasm. Sixty were collected evaluated for tolerance. Accessions then grouped into tolerant. These planted Randomized Complete Block Design ten replicates. Morphological differences groups accordingly. Of sixty evaluated, fifty-two while eight No qualitative observed groups, however significant quantitative which include terminal leaflet length, leaflet/width ratio, leaf petiole length (TLPL), pod (PDL), width, total number pods per plant, seed (SDL), width (SDW), thickness (SDTK) 100 weight (100SDW). Bruchid significantly positively correlated include, SDL (r = 0.798, p < 0.01); SDW SDTK 0.758, 0.01);100SDW (0.830, 0.01) negatively TLPL PDL (p 0.05). provide germplasm, hence requires further investigations.

Diversity in 113 cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L) Walp] accessions assessed with 458 SNP markers
Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) markers were used in characterization of 113 cowpea accessions comprising of 108 from Ghana and 5 from abroad. Leaf tissues from plants cultivated at the University of Ghana were genotyped at KBioscience in the United Kingdom. Data was generated for 477 SNPs, out of which 458 revealed polymorphism. The results were used to analyze genetic dissimilarity among...

متن کاملAssessing genotypic variability of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata [L.] Walp.) to current and projected ultraviolet-B radiation.
The current and projected terrestrial ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation affects growth and reproductive potential of many crops. Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata [L.] Walp.), mostly grown in tropical and sub-tropical regions may already be experiencing critical doses of UV-B radiation due to a thinner ozone column in those regions. Better understanding of genotypic variability to UV-B radiation is a prer...
متن کاملGenetic variability and resistance of cultivars of cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp] to cowpea weevil (Callosobruchus maculatus Fabr.).
The cowpea weevil (Callosobruchus maculatus Fabr.) is the most destructive pest of the cowpea bean; it reduces seed quality. To control this pest, resistance testing combined with genetic analysis using molecular markers has been widely applied in research. Among the markers that show reliable results, the inter-simple sequence repeats (ISSRs) (microsatellites) are noteworthy. This study was pe...

Growth (dry matter yield) and N(2) fixation were largely unaffected by pO(2) fr...
